On January 19th, 2022, a meeting between the Institute for Circular Economy Development (ICED) welcomed the officers from U.S. Consulate General HCMC to visit our office in Thu Duc City to explore collaboration opportunities in the field of circular economy (CE).

For this meeting, ICED was represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. NGUYEN Hong Quan – Director of ICED, Dr. DANG Thuong Huyen, Mr. BUI Le Thanh Khiet, Mr. THACH Phuoc Hung, Mr. PHAN Duc Thai, and Ms. TRAN Thi Diem Phuc while while U.S. Consulate General HCMC was represented by Ms. Caitlin CASSOT (Economic Officer), and Ms. NGUYEN Thi Tuong Nhi (Environment, Science, Technology, and Health Assistant).

Dr. Quan presented to Ms. Caitlin and Ms. Nhi about ICED’s mission, vision, and activities. The representatives from the U.S. Consulate General shared about their interests on circular economy, especially plastic waste management, agriculture, and partnership, they asked many interesting questions to learn more about the environmental problems and approach of CE as potential solutions in Vietnam and in the world. Mr. Hung shared about the difficulties of low-income workers in HCMC during Covid pandemic and solutions about urban circular agriculture housing while Mr. Khiet talked more about plastic pollution on the river from projects he is involved in.

Closing the meeting, both parties discussed future collaboration activities including inviting various speakers in the field for joint workshops and contributing to policy advocacy in the country.
