On 11th June 2021, ICED hosted an online meeting with Prof. Koro de la Caba (Head of BIOMAT research group) and Dr. Pedro Guerrero, from the University of the Basque Country in Spain to discuss the potential for collaboration.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hong Quan, Dr. Dang Thuong Huyen and Dr. Nguyen Minh Tu have participated in the meeting. On behalf of ICED, Dr. Nguyen Hong Quan (Director of ICED) has shared with Prof. Caba and her team about the institutes’ position and vision, its core research themes and activities. Following the introduction of Dr. Quan, Prof. Caba has presented the main research activities of the BIOMAT research group, which span across various fields of life cycle assessment (LCA), biopolymeric materials, by-product valorization, environmentally friendly processes, and 3D printing. Dr. Quan acknowledged that these topics are relevant to the current work and of great interest to ICED and shared with Prof. Caba and her team several research activities and programs of the institute related to the topics and potential areas for consideration. The participants further discussed the promising activities to expand the collaboration in short and long terms in various forms of project collaboration, joint education, organization of seminars, and exchange of students and researchers. Both organizations confirmed to maintain regular information exchange and discussion to realize the collaboration soon.

Dr. Koro de la Caba is Full Professor and head of BIOMAT research group in the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). She received her Doctorate in Chemistry at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) in the research area of polymeric materials. Nowadays, she leads research projects in the area of biopolymeric materials for food and biomedical applications. The main research interests address various aspects of renewable and biodegradable materials from the extraction of raw materials to the end of life of products (Source: ORCID of Prof. Caba).
