VIAs part of a series of cooperation activities between the Institute for Research and Development of Circular Economy (ICED), Thua Thien Hue Institute for Development Studies (HueIDS), International Faculty – Hue University (HUIS), May 7, 2022 Recently, the first event of PlasticAction project deployed in Hue – Workshop “Education to raise awareness to reduce plastic waste” took place successfully.
The workshop was held directly with the participation of more than 150 students in Hue with the presence of representatives of the organizing units: US Consulate General Ho Chi Minh City (fund donor), Institute for Circular Economy Development (ICED), Institute for Research Thua Thien Hue Development Studies (HueIDS), International Faculty – Hue University (HUIS). The purpose of the workshop was to raise people’s awareness, especially the young generation, about reducing plastic waste, contributing to make Thua Thien – Hue more Green – Clean – Bright..
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hong Quan, Director of Institute for Circular Economy Development, Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City was the guest speaker, representative of the ICED research team who gave a speech on the circular economy as well as the role of students participating in the development of the circular economy (Pic 1).

Students have learned a lot of useful things about the problem of plastic waste through meaningful and interactive sharing from speakers, including Assoc. Prof. Tran Anh Tuan with ‘Single-use plastic products – Harmfulness and solutions to reduce’ (Pic 2), MSc. Bui Le Thanh Khiet, head of the Plastic circular economy unit at ICED with a case study on beach litter monitoring in Can Gio, HCMC (Pic 3), and CEO Nguyen Chuong with ‘Sharing story of mother nature’s responsibility’ (Pic 4).

In addition, the workshop also witnessed the signing ceremony of collaboration between the International School – Hue University (HUIS) with the Institute for Circular Economy Development (ICED) and the Thua Thien – Hue Institute for Development Studies (HueIDS), marking the beginning of building breakthrough projects to promote the development and spread of Plastic Action project in Hue (Pic 5).

This workshop and PlasticAction’s series of events, which is sponsored by the US Consulate General Ho Chi Minh City, in general are a good opportunity for Thua Thien – Hue province to raise people’s awareness, especially the young generation, about reducing plastic waste, contributing to make Thua Thien – Hue more Green – Clean – Bright.
