On 27th July, ICED has held a productive meeting with Mr. Ken Webster, a well-known scholar in the field of circular economy to discuss the related topics and explore potential collaboration.
On behalf of ICED, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hong Quan has thanked Mr. Webster for his kind acceptance to participate in the discussion. The meeting then focused on the topic of regenerative agriculture and the contribution of circular economy to economic development, regeneration of natural capital, and supporting social wellbeing and poor people. ICED has also shared with Mr. Webster the approach and activities of the agricultural circular economy unit of the institute and the activities related to the topic of regenerative agriculture. Both sides further exchanged ideas on the scale issues in building effective circular economy systems in agriculture that cover various aspects of livelihoods, social wellbeing, impacts and upscaling, and informing the policymaking processes. The director of the institute further shared with Mr. Webster relevant activities of ICED regarding the topic of circular economy in agriculture that could set a starting point for dialogues and exchange of ideas between two sides. For the next steps, Mr. Webster and ICED agreed to maintain the connection via continuous dialogues, sharing of ideas, and supporting outreach activities and networking in the field of circular economy.
Mr. Ken Webster
Mr. Ken Webster was the head of Innovation at the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, a leading think tank on the circular economy. Mr. Webster is a leading scholar in the field of circular economy and has presented his experiences and knowledge at several conferences and seminars around the world. He is the author of the famous book on the circular economy, titled “The Circular Economy: A Wealth of Flows” (first published in 2015, second edition in 2017), which presents the main ideas of circular economy, system thinking, economic and business opportunities and ways to the circular economy transition.
