On May 5, 2021, the Institute for Circular Economy Development (ICED) met with a representative of TONTOTON Company to discuss potential collaborative opportunities between the two organizations.
Participants of ICED’s side include Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hong Quan (Director), Dr. Dang Thuong Huyen, MSc. Le Ba Nhat Minh and MSc. Bui Thanh Khiet. On the TONTOTON’s side, there was the presence of Mr. Barak Ekshtein (Director).
On behalf of ICED, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hong Quan introduced the Institute’s vision, mission, and main activities. Mr. Barak Ekshtein also presented about the company’s four main pillars, and TONTOTON’s strength as one of the pioneers in plastic neutralization. The program collects hundreds of tons of non-recyclable plastic litter in 2021 in the south and the North of Vietnam. Then both sides discussed in depth about potential projects, pooled and leveraged each other’s resources to jointly develop projects oriented towards the principles of circular economy. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hong Quan agrees with Mr. Barak Ekshtein that in term of circular economy development, it needs joint efforts from Government entities, non-government organizations, businesses, and communities. Therefore, with a broad network, ICED is ready to connect TONTOTON to related units to implement projects effectively.
The meeting achieved good results as expected, ICED and TONTOTON agreed on a roadmap for cooperation in the near future, especially in the field of plastic waste collection in the circular economy.

About TONTOTON:
TONTOTON (www.tontoton.com) is a plastic neutralization program that offers a sustainable and environmentally friendly solution to reduce ocean plastic, by rescuing plastic before it reaches the oceans.
TONTOTON was created to help solve two major problems. Firstly, collect and recycle large quantities of non-recyclable plastic before it reaches the ocean. Secondly, address the growing sustainable market alongside the need of companies to take responsibility for their plastic footprint. To address it, TONTOTON decided to develop a controlled and reliable system which operates under international standards, that can handle large quantities of plastic.
